Hart Toys Headquarters
-
Vancouver, WashingtonEhm Architecture designed this project for the late toymaker LeRoy Hart. We began with a simple base model, then created a kit of parts representing toys that Mr, Hart could play with to determine his favorite design elements. This is the more conservative of the three design schemes we produced. A play court at the center of the building allows researchers to watch children at play in a low-pressure and highly creative setting.

Ehm Architecture
San Diego, California
-Principal Architect Randal Ehm designed and built this tenant improvement for his office in Mission Hills. He completed the work in one month. The project features Japanese shoji screens for which Randal designed hand-forged steel floor mounts, and perforated light screens that were fabricated by Art of Blacksmithing Design. The light screens reduce the visual impact of existing fluorescent light fixtures, which were retained for economy and practicality. Mr. Ehm purchased the office building in 1999.

Post-Earthquake Office Park
-
Palm Springs, CaliforniaThe design concept for this unbuilt Class A office complex was true to it's namesake, with twisted bell towers, large "seismic retrofit" wedges across the roof and a boulder which is seemingly thrust up from beneath the Earth to support a piece of the "original parking lot" asphalt -- which serves as a canopy.
This eye-level view at the site entrance gives a closeup image of the dynamic, sculptural nature of the design concept. This building was to have housed the California State Board of Equalization's local office.
