Expert Roofing and Building Envelope Design

We were awarded a two-year As-Needed Architectural and ADA Compliance Services Agreement with San Diego Unified Port District, which was extended three times for a total of five years – the maximum allowable term for a single contract.  Among the several projects we have completed was the $1.1 million emergency reroofing of the existing Cruise Ship Terminal. The 162,000 square foot roof was replaced in 2012.

City of Gig Harbor hired us to design emergency repairs to the building envelope and replacement of the entire roofing system at the Civic Center Complex. The roofing shingles failed prior to their warrantied service life, and were the subject of a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer. The cementitious board-and-batten siding system is being replaced due to construction defects.

We served on this Higher Education project as Architect/Designer of Record and Design Quality Control Manager, under a Design-Build IDIQ contract with Letner Roofing Company in 2018.  Scope of Work included Field Verification and Record Drawings in BIM, and Design Development, Construction Documents and Construction Administration Services for reroofing the 38,700 square-foot Ayala Science Library, the 11,400 square foot Gateway Study Center / Graduate Resource Facility and the 14,300 sf Engineering Tower.

San Diego Unified Port District engaged us to provide Architectural and Engineering Services for this project in 2013. The roofing system of the original building failed, resulting in moisture intrusion and water damage in several retail tenant spaces. Latent flaws in the original design by another firm necessitated a Facility Condition Assessment, including intrusive investigation, flood testing and recommendations for mitigation of the design issues. The Port elected to have us redesign the roof structure according to our recommendations, and to completely reroof the entire building. 

We were awarded this contract with Engineering Partners Inc. in 2012. The project included eight shade structures over the City Hall parking area, with a 200 megawatt solar panel array and inverter building.

We were engaged by City of Bainbridge Island to perform a Roofing Evaluation and Assessment, to facilitate installation of a Photovoltaic Power Generation System on the roof. The 6,000 square foot building is located in the city’s Waterfront Park.

Ehm Architecture performed roofing analysis including intrusive investigation for this 14-building high school campus. We provided architectural and engineering services for the 120,000 square foot project, which was completed at five percent below the budget of $ 1.1 million. Work was coordinated to allow construction during the eight-week summer break, to avoid impact on the 1400-student school.
